IBS Diet: Fat Control.
Irritable Bowel Syndrome
symptoms can be triggered by certain foods. Any food that produces a
strong
gastro-colic reflex is bad for Irritable Bowel Syndrome sufferers. The
gastro-colic reflex is a normal contractile reaction of the large gut
in
response to food consumption. In IBS the gut is sensitive and this
reflex can
be exaggerated. For any Irritable Bowel Syndrome diet to be effective,
these
foods have to be under careful scrutiny.
A good Irritable Bowel
Syndrome diet should exclude fat. Fats are the greatest stimulants of
the large
gut and gastro-colic reflex. It does not matter if the fat is in the
form of
mono, poly or saturated fats. They are all powerful triggers. So
control of all
types of fat is necessary in your Irritable Bowel Syndrome diet.
Often
it is easy to
identify fats and remove from your Irritable Bowel Syndrome diet. Most
people
are aware of the high content of fat in meat, dairy products and fried
food.
If you want an Irritable
Bowel Syndrome diet to work for you, always read labels in the
supermarket so
you are aware of the fat content before you buy.
All this could leave you
feeling down since the foods rich in fats are likely to be tastier and
you have
to avoid them to have and effective Irritable Bowel Syndrome diet.
Admittedly
there are some foods you cannot eat but there are some that you may
well be
able to consume safely in small amount. For an Irritable Bowel Syndrome
diet to be
of any use you must find out what you can and cannot eat.
There are always
substitutes for these fatty foods. Admittedly they may not be as
appetising but
incorporating them in your Irritable Bowel Syndrome diet will not only
make you
healthier but give you better control of your Irritable Bowel Syndrome.
Foods that have a high fat
content are red meat and dairy products. As for eggs, the white is
protein in
the form of albumin but the yolk is high in fat.
These three types of food,
red meat, dairy, and egg yolk are your enemy. They are powerful
triggers. When
developing an Irritable Bowel Syndrome diet, you should bear these
facts in
mind. Skimmed milk has no fat but contain lactose, whey and casein. All
three
can affect the gut.
It is therefore important
to consider fats and the types of fat containing foods you cannot eat
and those
you can eat in small amount and consider these details when working out
the
best Irritable Bowel Syndrome diet.
